Instead of subjecting these expensive, highly sensitive pieces of silicon directly to the extreme heat of your soldering iron, you permanently mount this rugged, heat-resistant thermoplastic socket to your board. Once the surrounding components are soldered and the flux is cleaned away, you simply press your pristine IC into the tensioned metallic contacts.

Unlike smaller pin counts, 24-pin ICs are unique because they commonly exist in two distinct widths: the 0.300" "Skinny DIP" (often used for modern SRAM and ADCs) and the 0.600" Wide Body (traditionally used for EPROMs and older microcontrollers).
