Rather than risking thermal damage to your sensitive silicon by applying a hot soldering iron directly to the chip's legs, you solder this durable thermoplastic socket to your board instead. Once the board has cooled and been cleaned of flux, you simply snap your IC directly into the socket's tensioned metallic contacts.
