The Arduino Nano V3 with a Mini-USB port is a classic, breadboard-friendly microcontroller board based on the ATmega328P. It offers the same functionality as the Arduino UNO but in a much smaller footprint, utilizing a Mini-B USB port for power and programming.
Key Technical Specifications
  • Microcontroller: ATmega328P (16 MHz clock speed)
  • Operating Voltage: 5V
  • Input Voltage: 7–12V (recommended)
  • I/O Pins: 14 Digital I/O (6 provide PWM) and 8 Analog Inputs
  • Memory: 32 KB Flash, 2 KB SRAM, 1 KB EEPROM
  • USB Interface: Mini-B USB
Common Variants (The CH340 Chip)
While original Arduino Nano boards featured FTDI USB-to-serial chips, most Nano V3 Mini-USB boards available today are budget-friendly third-party variants that use the CH340G chip. These function identically to the originals but require you to install the CH340 driver on your PC to communicate with the Arduino IDE.
Powering the Board
You can power the Nano in three ways:
  1. Mini-USB Port: 5V supplied directly from your computer or a standard USB charger.
  2. VIN Pin: Unregulated 6V to 20V external power supply (will be regulated down to 5V by the board).
  3. 5V Pin: Regulated 5V external power supply.
Programming and Getting Started
To upload code, you will need a standard USB 2.0 A-Male to Mini-B Cable.
  • Driver Installation: If your board uses the CH340 chip, download and install the appropriate driver for your operating system.
  • In the Arduino IDE: Go to Tools > Board > Arduino AVR Boards and select Arduino Nano  or Arduino UNO if the upload fails with the standard option.
You can review complete pinouts, schematics, and tutorials on the Arduino Nano Documentation page.
