The E18-D80NK is a popular, low-cost adjustable infrared (IR) proximity sensor used for obstacle avoidance and object detection in robotics and industrial automation. It integrates both an IR transmitter and a receiver into a single compact, threaded cylindrical chassis.

  • Sensing Range: Adjustable from 3 cm to 80 cm via a rear potentiometer
  • Output Type: NPN Normally Open (NO) Digital Output
  • Output Signal Status: HIGH (5V) by default when clear; LOW (0V) when an object is detected
  • Immunity: Emits a modulated IR beam, shielding it against false triggers from ambient light 
Wiring Pinout
The sensor comes with an attached 3-wire cable: 
  • Brown Wire: Connect to 5V VCC
  • Blue Wire: Connect to GND (Ground)
  • Black Wire: Digital Signal Output (Note: Many microcontrollers require enabling an internal pull-up resistor or adding an external 10kΩ pull-up resistor between the Brown and Black wires to read a clean HIGH status).
