The Nokia 5110 LCD Module is an 84×48 pixel monochrome graphic display highly popular among hobbyists for its low cost, extreme power efficiency, and ease of use with microcontrollers like ⁠Arduino. Originally used in classic ⁠Nokia 5110 mobile phones, these surplus screens are now commonly mounted on breakout PCBs with integrated backlights.

  • Driver Chip: Philips ⁠PCD8544 CMOS LCD controller.
  • Interface: Serial SPI-like protocol.
  • Operating Voltage: 2.7V to 3.3V for both logic and power. (Note: Connecting 5V logic directly from an Arduino Uno can damage the driver over time without logic level shifters or current-limiting resistors).
  • Current Draw: Less than 200µA during active use (without backlight), making it exceptional for battery-powered projects.
  • Backlight: Typically 4 built-in blue or white LEDs. 
Pinout Configuration
Most breakout modules break out 8 interface pins: 
  • RST: Reset pin.
  • CE / SCE: Chip Enable (Active LOW).
  • DC: Data / Command selection.
  • DIN / MOSI: Serial data input.
  • CLK: Serial clock line.
  • VCC: Power supply (2.7V - 3.3V).
  • LIGHT / LED: Backlight control (ground or power depending on the specific module version).
  • GND: Ground connection.
