The turbidity detects water quality by measuring the level of cloudiness or Total Suspended Solids (TSS). It uses an infrared (IR) transmitter and receiver to measure light transmittance; as water becomes muddier, fewer light waves pass through, reducing the sensor's output voltage.

These modules generally feature standard industrial specifications:

  • Current Consumption: Max 30mA to 40mA
  • Output Modes: Dual output. Analog (0 to 4.5V range where higher voltage means clearer water) and Digital (High/Low output with an adjustable threshold potentiometer).
  • Detection Range: 0 to 4000+ NTU (Nephelometric Turbidity Units)
  • Response Time: Less than 500ms
Wiring Guide (Sensor to Arduino)
The typical kit comes in three parts: the waterproof probe head, a signal converter board, and a jumper cable. Connect the adapter board to your Arduino board as follows:
